India's space agency ISRO launched a record 104 satellites on a single rocket from the Sriharikota spaceport in Andhra Pradesh today.
YEH HAI INDIA KE ISRO KE KUCH FACTS
1. ISRO's workhorse rocket PSLV-C37 carrying the 104 satellites lifted off from the first launch pad at Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota at 9.28am. It was PSLV's 39th flight.
2. Out of the total 104 satellites placed in orbit, 101 satellites belonged to six foreign countries. They included 96 from the US and one each from Israel, the UAE, the Netherlands, Switzerland and Kazakhstan.
3. This is the heaviest version of the PSLV, weighing about 320 tonnes at lift-off and standing tall at 44.4 meters.
4. The 101 international customer nano-satellites were launched as part of the commercial arrangements between Antrix Corporation Limited (Antrix), the commercial arm of ISRO and the international customers.
5. It then took less than 10 minutes for the rocket to spew out 101 passengers, which are all foreign nano satellites, as it travelled up in altitude reaching the polar sun synchronous orbit.
6. Two other Indian nano satellites, totally weighing about 1,378 kg, will also ride piggyback in the rocket.
7. This is ISRO's second successful attempt after the launch of 23 satellites in a single rocket in June 2015.
8. In 2014, the Russian Space Agency has launched 37 satellites in one go.
